Finance Ministry moves towards good governance
With the view to enhance transparency and accountability and to promote good governance, the Ministry of Finance has taken steps to place on its website the Annual Performance Reports of the Ministries, Departments and Public Enterprises for 2002, the ministry said in a statement.

The performance reports that have been received so far are already on display and the balance Performance Reports will be displayed as and when they are received.
The Performance Reports of the Ministries and Departments are placed on the website www.nbd.gov.lk of the National Budget Department.

In order to access these Performance Reports, visitors to the website can navigate through the "Budget Monitoring" option to the "Reports" option, and from there to the "Performance' option in the Home Page. The Annual Reports and Accounts of the public enterprises are being placed in the website www.ped.gov.lk of the Department of Public Enterprises.


DHL extends business in South Asia Indo-China
DHL held its Regional Mid-Year Conference in Colombo recently with the participation of more than 50 representatives from the South Asia Indo-China region involving 11 countries - Pakistan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar, Bhutan, Laos, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Chaired by Area Director DHL South Asia and Indo-China Stephen Fenwick, this regional conference focused on developing product and service strategies to accelerate business growth within the next 18 months.

"We really want to extend our business up to 30% and we believe we can do that.
We believe that there are a lot of things going on in this region," Fenwick said.
Fenwick, was quoted as saying in a press release, that he saw DHL as "a very strong company with great opportunities across Asia going into the major markets in Europe and USA".

According to DHL's Sri Lanka Country Manager Chaminda Hewamallika, DHL is poised to offer a range of new and innovative services next year in order to support local exporters in their efforts to achieve the competitive advantage in the global marketplace. "During the last seven months, DHL has invested substantially in upgrading its vehicles, infrastructure and technology with the sole aim of enhancing our service capabilities.

As the local and the international market leader we will continue to invent and deliver customer driven solutions ranging from door-to-door express delivery to total supply chain management", he said.
