Money and property feuds have shattered the deep-rooted family values that were experienced by extended families. ‘Dadu Kete’ unfolds the breaking up of the basic unit - the family. With all its intrigue, betrayals and conflicting human aspirations this 17-episode teledrama ends on a happy note. That is what all of us look for in this short span of life. A happy ending.

Happiness depends on what we make out of our lives. Ivan Kulawansa, a retired government servant lives with his two sons and two daughters in his house. His elder daughter married to an Assistant Teacher Sahabandu rather late in life is childless. Sahabandu hopes to be a Principal one day.

Manjula, his second daughter is engaged to a shrewd textile businessman who is more interested in possessing Manjula’s house than Manjula herself. Dayakanthi, Sahabandu’s sister who has been abroad comes home hoping to marry. When she finds out that all the money she had sent has been used by her brother to build his house she is enraged. She plans to live in Sahabandu’s house till he repays her.

Walpola introduces Asha, a vivacious pretty girl to the Kulawansa household saying she was Manjula’s friend. He hopes that Asha with her captivating ways will be able to entice Priyankara Kulawansa’s son. Walpola plans to evict the Kulawansa family from the house.

Once Priyankara succumbs to Asha’s wiles the only obstacle will be removed as Kulawansa has fallen ill and is hospitalized. Ransil is Manjula’s youngest brother. What will be the outcome of all these intrigues of greed, sex and selfishness inherent in human nature? What about the virtues of selflessness, love and bonding?

Well you will find all of it once you start watching ‘Dadu Kete’ on Monday at 7.00 p.m. on Rupavahini. Bandula Withanage, Jayani Senanayake, Nihal Fernando, Nirosha Herath, Gihan Fernando, Neena Kumari, Deepani Silva, Gamini Hettiarachchi, Rohani Weerasinghe, Preveena Virajini and Asela Jayakody star in this teledrama. ‘Dadu Kete’ is directed by Tissa Wijekoon.
