More changes in Sri Lanka Telecom numbers

The Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), on Saturday began implementing the next phase in the region-by-region process of changing their customer’s telephone numbers in conformity to the ‘10 Digit Number Change’ directive of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL).

The forthcoming phase of number changes will apply to SLT customers whose numbers begin with ‘2’ in the following areas: Ratnapura (area code ‘045’), Gampaha (area code ‘033’), Kalutara (area code ‘034’), Kandy (area code ‘08’), Galle (area code ‘09’), Hambantota (area code ‘047’) and Kurunegala (area code ‘037’).

Subsequent to the change, every number will uniformly consist of 7 digits. This will be done by adding the digit ‘2’ or digits ‘22’ to the old numbers.

The next phase of changes will be applicable to customers in the Exchange Area of Trincomalee. The dates of these changes will be announced in advance in the media.

While regretting the inconvenience caused by these changes, SLT said in a statement it believes that the technological advantages gained by these necessary changes will result in greatly improved telecom services.
