Taraki youngest diver in Asian age group C'ship 2003

Taraki Siyaguna has been selected for the Third Asian Age Group Championship 2003 to be held in Macao, China in August.

Taraki (14) of Bishop’s College the youngest diver to be selected, qualified for the championships following her success at the 27th National Age Group Swimming and Diving Championship conducted by the NAASU and held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool on June 6,7, and 8.

This meet was a selection trial for the 3rd Asian Age Group Championship 2003 and four swimmers were selected in this category, Taraki Siyaguna (Bishop’s College), Chanaka Wickremesinghe (Royal College), Esiri Kankanige (Royal College) and Prasadi Perera (Visakha Vidyalaya).

While the requirement to qualify for the 1 metre dive was 170 points, and the requirement for the 3 metre dive was 169 points, Taraki collected 182 points in the 1 metre Spring Board Diving and 187 points in the 3 metre Spring Board Diving event. Taraki also came in second place at the 200 metre Breast Stroke event at the recently concluded championships.

Denis de Silva heads Antonians SC Wattala
Mr. Denis De Silva was elected President of the Antonian Sports Club, Wattala for a second term at the Annual General Meeting held at the Lions Vocational Training Centre, Wattala.

Antonians SC were winners of the championship limited overs Division One Tournament and were runners-up in the Sara Division One competition during the season 2002/03.

President - Mr. Denis De Silva; Vice Presidents - Pantaleon Algama, George Fernando; General Secretary - Hirantha Perera; Asst, Secretary - Noel Jansz; Treasurer - Sri Lal Jayamaha; Asst. Treasurer - Indrajith Perera; Social Secretary - Upali Manukularatne; Cricket Secretary - Lakmal Perera; Cricket Co-ordinator - Sanjaya Dissanayake.

Committee Members - Victor Rodrigo, Mohan de Silva, Binal De Silva, Nalliah Devarajan, Tyronne Fernando, Manoj Hemaratne, Joe Saverimuthapulle, Malitha Jayasundara, Upul Manukularatne and Dushantha De Silva.

CR and FC Six-side cricket today
CR and FC, the club with a rugby tradition has organized a six-a-side cricket tournament for members and well-wishers on Sunday today (June 22) at Longden Place, commencing at 9 a.m.

In the past, too, the Longden Place Club has organized similar tournaments to bring about understanding and togetherness among the members and their families and supporters of the red-shirted club.

Played in a lighter vein, its going be fun and frolic, said a senior official of the Club. 26 teams have entered. Each team will comprise five men of which three are club members and one woman.The semis and finals will be played under floodlights. This tournament is being sponsored by Cold Stores. -BW
