Musical Tribute to Malani
Forty years of dedicated service rendered by Malani Fonseka to the Silver Screen has not only gained popularity, but won the hearts and confidence of many of her fans. She gained wide appreciation and she was really fortunate and deserving to have been crowned the queen of the silver screen.

In recognition and appreciation of all the contributions she made for the film industry, Lucky Deva of Goden Chimes has composed a special song titled 'Malaniye' and presented it to her at Elphinstone on the day of one of the felicitation ceremonies. A special feature of this song signifies the different films which proves that she is a jewel of an actress.

"While listening to a song sung in appreciation of Marilyn Monroe, I wondered as to why a song has not been still composed in recognition and appreciation of Malani Fonseka. Hence this came to my memory, and then I composed this song an year ago. During this time I happened to meet Malani and her husband Lucky. I mentioned that I have composed a song exclusively for Malani, and they were highly impressed. I consider that I am proud and privileged have got the opportunity of presenting this on this special occasion", Lucky Deva explained.

This particular song of mixer rhyme and rhythm of 1970's composed by Lucky was aired on Sirasa TV very recently together with few selected cuts from Malani's films.

Lucky Deva confessed that although he has composed a large number of songs, this song in particular was a special achievement for him. Each time we hear this song, Malani's image will live forever.


Sunday Choice with Angie
Versatile actress Angela Seneviratne will feature on 'Sri Lanka Star Parade' on Commercial Services of the SLBC on May 4 at 1.00pm.

Angela Seneviratne hailing from the tiny fishing hamlet Hambantota and earned for herself much rewarding and multifaceted career in the fields of fashion and beauty. Having been a sought after fashion and catwalk model and former Miss Sri Lanka to Miss World, now performing arts and is a very well known name in local Cinema, television, English and Sinhala theatre productions, presents a very popular show on the Commercial Service of the SLBC called the Sunday Choice with Angie.

Making yet another achievement in the field of music, she started to sing professionally and is about to release her own album of Sinhala originals called Lassana Rahasak' with songs written by Dharmasiri Gamage, Ajantha Ranasinghe, 'Hemasiri Halpita and Lakshman Mallawarachchi. The music direction is done by Sarath de Alwis.

The programme is presented by Bevil Palihawadane.


'Pappa & Children' : Theme of the new hit song

'Pappa Samaga Doo-daru Kela' is the latest song to hit the small screen. This is a song that is presented by T.V. Rupavahini and connected media and this is different from the songs which are usually connected with love, sorrow and sob based songs.

'Papa Samaga Doo-daru Kela' composed and sung by Lalith Anthony Perera . This is the title song of the Lalith's debut CD, which was an instant hit. The CD comprises four songs . 'Pappa', Katta Kaluware', 'Sandawe' and 'Muhudu Relle' are the songs created and sung by Lalith himself.

Among the songs sung praising motherly /fatherly qualities, this unfolds a character of a father who had sacrificed his entire life and wealth for the sake of his children but ultimately ruined his life.

Lalith Perera, who is a Singer, Artiste and a Musician, has years of experience behind him. This versatile singer was performing with several popular bands in and around Moratuwa, his home town since his school days.

Lalith was a popular drummer and he played with many bands at star class hotels in 80's and later travelled to Europe with other Lankan musicians. In early days Rohitha and Rohan Jayalath of 'Jayasri' started their stint in Austria with Lalith.

While residing in Austria, Lalith studied music further and mastered the art of singing. But later he developed an interest in Sinhala songs and music and started to study. It is fortunate enough as a result of his interest, the contribution towards the industry benefited.

There are few others too, who have contributed towards this project 'Pappa'. One of them is an up coming young female vocalist Nirosha Shilani Pathirana. Her dedication effort has immensely contributed towards the progress of this song.

"She has done her part as the Chief Organizer in addition to being a female co-vocalist and in acting. Nirosha has taken part in several teledramas and is a bright student of famous actress, Anoja Weerasinghe." Lalith said

In addition, her sisters Maduka and Mallika have associated in this CD as female co-vocalists and in acting too.

"The most prominent character of this, is the role of "Father", played by non other than Berty Gunatilleke. Performing the character of "Father" in this song, he has really living in the character. I think Berty is the ideal person for this character and I made the correct choice" Lalith explained.

Berty has given his whole heartedly blessing to this new song and has shown appreciation of being able to contribute his services.

Hemasiri Halpita penned the other three songs of this CD. The CD was recorded at the Torana Recording studio.

"Now it is left to you to enjoy this song." Lalith said.


'Wild Fire'sings for dogs
The popular group Wild Fire will perform at a concert in aid of 'Man's Best Friend', the ever faithful Dog, on Sunday, May 4 at the Vihara Maha Devi Open Air Theatre at 7.00 p.m.

The concert which is organized by the recently launched Blue Paw Trust, will see all proceeds being channelled towards a Rabies eradication programme which is being jointly conducted by the Trust and the Colombo Municipality.

In addition to the performance by WildFire, there will be other guest artistes as well as a Latin American dance act.

The Blue Paw Trust which is a charitable organization founded to control the stray animal population and the eradication of rabies, has a series of fund raising activities scheduled for this year in order that they may achieve their goals.

Tickets are priced at Rs. 200/- and are available at all Mallika Hemachandra and Uthum Pathum , Kent Academy of Career Training at Thurstan Road, Keells Super, at the Pet Vet Clinic, at Movenpick Ice Cream Parlour on Flower Road and at the Gate.
