Shades of Grey
If life is a beautiful painting
Happy moments are the bright spots in that picture.
The bright red roses and the sun shining
Are the happy days of my life.
The life I spent as a little girl, free of problems…
But in this painting I see shades of grey…
I call it the sorrowful moments of my life
Here and there, in this painting I see the grey spots.
These spots remind me of my father's death.
And above all, my late husband's untimely death.

Back off!
I find human behaviour so revolting. I mean I just had to make one stupid mistake and there they were, all around me, trying to feed on my misgivings like hungry vultures. Oh, you know, they were just offering their 'good advice' and telling me how I should live my life and all the rest.

Trust me, I don't have a problem about receiving good advice but these are the so called 'caring relatives' who don't even bother to call me up and check if I am still living - unless of course they need something.

What I find so revolting is that when I make a mistake, they believe it is their god given right to let me know how stupid and how absolutely idiotic I am. Hey! I made a mistake, 'cos I'm human - nobody said I was perfect. Listen up, all you 'saints' out there - BACK OFF AND GIVE IT A REST!!

Farewell to our baby
We were expecting your arrival for a long time
We prayed and prayed for a normal birth
The day you were born, we were happy together
All our happiness was in vain.
Doctor said you were weak, and breathing with difficulty, wont live long,"
You spent only two days with us
We are so miserable.
Duwa, your two days in our world
Were the happiest days for your two little brothers!
As they expected a nangi.
We mourned together
In your depart
As we enjoyed
On your arrival.
At dead of night
We buried you
Without formal reception
But we carried out all
Religious rituals, offering "pirikara"
And "Pansakulaya," at night.
To wish triple gem blessings
For a long life in next birth.

Relaxing in style
By Esther Williams
A very happening place in the evenings is Kafe Kent; a delightful eating-place housed in a 98-year-old colonial type home, its décor in perfect harmony with nature.

The soothing ambience is particularly popular with office goers who can tuck into teatime treats such as open sandwiches, fruitcake and other beverages, served in the relaxing atmosphere that the recently transformed garden provides. Should a guest wish so, he/she can opt for a glass of beer or wine to help unwind after a hard day's work. Occasionally, the sounds of a flute player or the struming of a guitar complement the serenity of the L shaped garden area which seats 200.

Opened by Kent Holdings two years ago, Kafe Kent has now introduced a weekly programme that varies each week. This includes free use of the singing room, movies in the library and discounts (10-50%) on food and beverages on specified days and times.

The speciality of the house on Thursday is the Mongolian dinner, which customers can watch being cooked in the garden. On the menu for Saturdays is the Barbeque spread consisting of items such as the mixed seafood grill, chicken heart to heart and pork spare ribs.

The Mexican night is scheduled for Sunday. In the indoor garden, customers can dine on Mexican style crepes with mushroom and coriander, chilly and orange chicken with Mexican rice and cinnamon flan, all of which form part of the set menu. The health conscious have a wide range of salads and non-alcoholic health cocktails to choose from.

Kafe Kent now boasts a new Chef Sanjaya Liyanasuriya. With a diploma from Switzerland and18 years experience, he is able to concoct wholesome meals combining flavours of the east and west, which he calls Fusion Foods. Oriental herbs and ingredients are combined with continental products and presented in Western style. The result; something to suit all palettes.

Tony Bohoran, Consultant says that their new multi-cuisine menu is operational from the first week of April. Salad of prawns with oriental spices, Thai seafood Hot Pot, Moghlai Chicken Biriyani, Thai green chicken, Fried beef with ham and cheese and Sicilian Cheese Cake are among the array of mouthwatering dishes. Kent Kafe's quick lunches of 3-4 course menus are equally popular.

Kafe Kent seems to have formed a little community of its members. Happy with the response they have received, which also include games on occasions, Ruvini Kariyawasan, Manager Marketing and Promotions spoke of their monthly bulletin 'Life' that has been launched with the aim of keeping customers informed on the Kfe's activities.

They would welcome contributions in the form of jokes, recipes, handy hints, etc., which would be published in their bulletin which is currently being sent to 1200 regular customers and others.
