There were eight new entries in the UK singles Top 20 chart this week.

While there was a brand new No. 1 song it was the Bond theme song which generated much of the interest over the past two weeks.

Performing the song is Madonna, the queen of pop a dream come true for the singer.

"Die Another Day" entered the chart at No. 3. It was earlier expected to top the chart but as the day went by it became apparent it would fall short.

While the visuals to the song were absolutely fantastic and in keeping with the tradition of 007 movies the song "Die Another Day" dealt Madonna a blow with too much focus on the electronically filtered vocals.

Without the video the song lacks the "Bond" feeling unlike other songs associated with the film over the past 40 years.

Nevertheless Madonna joins the ranks of Shirley Bassey, Carly Simon, Tom Jones, Gladys Knight, Rita Coolidge, Sheena Easton, Duran Duran and A-ha among others who have recorded the theme song for the James Bond films.

In an earlier piece of news released Madonna was named the UK's highest music earner according to The Sunday Times Pay List published last week.

She qualified for the list after becoming a UK resident. Madonna earned over £36 million in 2001/2002. She earned £16 million of that amount after she allowed her song "Ray of Light", to be used for the launch of Microsoft - Windows XP.

The Top Ten music earners are 1. Madonna - £36m, 2. Sir Paul McCartney - £35m, 3. Sir Mick Jagger - £24.5m, 4. Keith Richards - £24m, 5. Sting - £21.8m, 6. Eric Clapton £14.2m, 7. Rod Stewart £1.2m, 8. Charlie Watts - £12m, 9. Pete Townshend - £10m, 10. Robbie Williams - £10m.
