Royal win boxing meet after 15 years
Royal College won a boxing tournament after 1987 on Wednesday (October 23) when they emerged winners at the Cadet Championships organised by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Royal collected 25 points while the runners up were Sivali Ratnapura with19 points. Vidyarathna Horana and Kingswood Kandy were jointly third with 10 points each.

The ABA conducted two meets concurrently at two different rings at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. One was the Cadet Championships while the other was the Junior Nationals where Sivali bagged the Phelps Shield with 21 points and Nugegoda BC were the runners up with 14 points. Carey were in third position with 11 points.

The chief guest was Cmdr.G.E.S. de Silva, the former Royal College boxing captain and now a national selector.

Mobitel Scrums down for the M'tile Rugby 7s
The popular Mercantile 32nd rugby's 'sevens' has again drawn over 40 teams and will be sponsored by Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd.

This tournament organized by the Mercantile Rugby Football Association has given playing opportunities to many players especially drawn from the smaller firms in the private sector and in its wake, has given young school leavers job opportunities, too. Since its inception - a brainchild of Capt. George - it has generated two days of exciting rugby.

This year's 'sevens' will be played on November 30 and December 1, at the Havelocks SC and CR&FC grounds. It will be played in eight groups on a league basis.

The winners in each group will play in the championship while the runners-up in the Plate and the third for the Bowl on a. k.o. basis at the CR&FC grounds on the second day.

This was revealed at a media briefing. Chris Maloy, Managing Director CEO Mobitel said that his firm was happy to be in the scrum for the second successive year in this much looked forward to event in the Private Sector sports calendar.

It's going to be two days of enjoyable rugby for the players and a happy family get-together. Maloy was associated with the President of the MRFA, Prasanna Silva, Secretary Lalith Hewage and Nalin Goonetilleke.

The committee together with Mobitel and joined by YES FM are making an endeavour that this year's tournament will be a one to be remembered. More teams have joined the scrum.

Last year the Cup was won by Hatton National Bank 'A' team with several national players in their fold.

The final was matched by Sampath, who gave them a good run. Newcomers to rugby Hoodvian Group from Galle, nursed by Leory Fonseka, won the Plate. While N-Car Group won the Bowl led by Dilroy Fernando. B.W.

Hilton JAIC Cricket Tournament
The Hilton JAIC Tower Sports Club has organized an inter-department Softball Cricket Tournament at St. Joseph's College Grounds on Sunday October 27 from 8.00 a.m. onwards.

A much looked forward to event in the calendar of sporting events of the Hilton JAIC Tower, this tournament will have awards for the Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Man of the Final and Man of the Tournament and also cash awards for the winner and runner-up teams respectively.

Mr. Peter Simson, General Manager, Hilton JAIC Tower will give away the prizes. The tournament has been organized by Nazeer Jayah, Security Manager, who is the Welfare Sports Secretary of the Club.
