NAB Award for Shree

National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) lauded the Sinhala radio channel "Shree FM", for their original contribution to the broadcasting industry.

The NAB recognises international radio and TV channels that have demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing the broadcast industry. Mahen Perera, Executive Director of Colombo Communications Limited, stated that Shree FM, after being named the most listened to radio channel by Survey Research Lanka's Media Facts 2001 and LMRB's Radio Audience Points 2002, was now victorious on the international playing field as well.

This he pointed out is an honour not only to Shree FM and its sister stations, E! FM and Raja FM. The NAB accolade was dramatically unveiled to the audience during a testosterone filled act, which saw macho men carry on to the stage the citation. Suddenly dancers appeared on stage to an explosive sound and lighting effect, which captured the imagination of the spellbound audience.

In Sri Lanka the event has grown in popularity amongst the young and old and every year a lot of people participate and many people of all ages come to see this event.
So flock in to the New Town Hall and enjoy a full days music free of charge.

Many popular musicians are expected to perform from time to time during the whole day and many professional comperes will also handle the days proceedings and details will be released in the coming weeks.

The play 'Charitha Hathak', being directed by Wilson Gunaratne would go on boards on June 9 at the Tower Hall 3.30-6.30 p.m to raise funds for Sri Lanka Association of Parents of Deaf Children (deaf youth self employment project).

The above play is a hilarious comedy. This is a unique play in which the 7 characters are dramatised by one actor, each having a different voice and a personality. One has to see it to believe it.

New chef at JAIC Hilton
By Poorna Rodrigo
Wendland Kai a prominent chef from Germany is in town especially invited by Jaic Hilton to offer a taste of their dishes to local customers for one long year. Kai made his entry into the vast field of culinary art some ten years ago. During this period he has toured many countries and gathered a lot of experience. He believes whatever the dishes of varying taste that are being prepared maintaining quality is of utmost importance which is sadly lacking at times.

With Asian foods getting more and more popular in the western countries Kai says people are going for foods with less spice. He has plans to introduce a bit of local taste coupled with foreign dishes.

This being his first ever visit to an Asian country, many more visits are planed to other Asian countries as well upon completing his period here. "I will be flying to Singapore and Malaysia", Mr. Kai said. Born in Germany he had been working in Egypt for many years. But it will take a while before he goes back to Egypt where he has been working at Egyptian Business Club managed by Hilton as an executive chef.

As for the local chefs, doors should be opened up for them to have a better exposure, a factor that has been denied to many of ours. During his stay several demonstrations and perhaps lectures that will benefit the chefs will be on agenda.
