Shake-up in
AG's Department
Sweeping changes were made this week in the supervision of criminal
work in the Attorney General's Department with Solicitor General
C.R. de Silva been placed in charge of general supervision of all
criminal matters.
Attorney General
K.C. Kamalasabayson issued the new orders which will come into operation
with immediate effect. The orders take away supervision of criminal
work that was until this week under Additional Solicitor General
Rienzie Arseculeratne who has now been assigned only with the supervision
and nomination of State Counsel for Supreme Court (criminal) and
High Court appeals.
Discharge orders
in all criminal cases, orders relating to preliminary inquires,
the non-summary unit, and sanctions for bail matters handled till
this week by Mr. Rienzie Arseculeratne have all been brought under
the Solicitor General-who had handled these functions earlier-with
immediate effect.
