Mane show

By Laila Nasry

"It's not a fashion show. Nor is it a hair show," says Vasantha de Silva of Kess keeping his small audience of journalists guessing as to what to expect at "Trends". "You will find beautiful people," he assures. Not a tall order for a man who has transformed heads to head turners with his creative hair flair, currently all set to go one step further to bring to the midst of the fashion conscious the total look with a truly international flavour.

"Trends" promises to be the 'mane' event come 2002 with Vasantha going full throttle to ensure practical but fashionable haircuts to suit all occasions coupled with the right makeup, clothes and accessories.

Joining him are big 'wigs' in the international fashion scene including Laurent Phillippon, a world-renowned stylist from Paris, whose expertise has adorned many an international magazine, lending a 'scissor' with the cuts. Sultry French model Trish will contribute her expertise to the production of the show joined by choreographer and perfectionist James Ferera from India.

The show, which is just 30 minutes in duration, will feature 15 of the cream of Indian models who will be joined by 15 more fresh faces from the local scene. "Most of the models are dark," says Vasantha having purposely hand picked those closest to the Sri Lankan look. Three Indians, famous for their prowess in enhancing features will handle their makeup.

The highlight of the event will be the fashion press, with representatives from international publications like Elle, Cosmopolitan, Verve, Femina and Bombay Times especially flying down to cover the event. Fashion TV, which most Sri Lankans are privy to, have also expressed their interest in the show.

January 9, 2002, the Atrium lobby of the Hotel Lanka Oberoi is the place to be as Vasantha de Silva and Kess together with Odel Unlimited, Sri Lankan Airlines and Carlsberg will explore the fascinating world of "Trends".
