Disappointment
A top runger on the waterfront may be forced to call off a much loved trip to Europe, one for a celebrated exhibition.

The reason – the invitation with all expenses paid has come from a weapons supplier who in the recent past concluded multi-million dollar deals.

Embarrassingly enough, this week one of the 30 mm guns provided by the supplier malfunctioned in a queer way. It fired all the 170 rounds of ammunition, one after the other, in a coastal encampment. Fortunately, the gun was facing skywards and there were no casualties.

Dessert before main course!
Defence Secretary Chandrananda de Silva, the busy man that he is, was returning from London last week after an official assignment.

A SriLankan Airlines steward who was doing his chores distributing last Sunday's newspapers asked Mr. de Silva whether he needed any.

"Yes, Times, Times and all other papers," he responded. He then took a copy of The Sunday Times and promptly turned to The Jungle Telegraph.

A steward heard a friend seated next asking Mr. de Silva whether he first read the defence report. "No, I first read this strip and then get on to that," he replied.

Alia, sure is honoured. !!

Uncomfortable judge
The Marshal who has planned many a covert operation, though not successfully like the CIA or the KGB, found himself somewhat uncomfortable playing judge. Unlike in the judiciary, he could not have backed out pleading personal reasons as grounds.

With his own future at stake, the self acclaimed spy master, prodded on.

Now, his trysts with one of the accused has come to

light. Was he doing it to save his friend or his own skin ?

This is the billion dollar question bothering not only the bosses but even the sleuths.

Must one say another clandestine operation has misfired for this little chief – a jack or marshal of all trades.

Air commandos
Airmen guarding the Bandaranaike International Airport are being put through some tough training to become commandos.

This is at a Commando Training centre located in the south. Batches will go through the rigours of tough training there.

The first batch is now going through its paces.
